Abstract:
The development and structural testing of an Advanced OSB (AOSB) panel that is reinforced with fiber-reinforced polymer composites (FRP) to increase the lateral resistance of conventional wood-framed shear walls is described. The AOSB panels have significant potential for increasing the energy dissipation capacity and lateral load resistance of wood-framed structures subjected to extreme wind and seismic events. The primary failure mode for the nails has been shifted from edge-tear to a more ductile withdrawal of the nails from the stud under static loading. Under cyclic loading, a significant number of nails failed in fatigue for the AOSB-sheathed walls.
