Cody Sheltra, ASCC Senior Research Manager, has been accepted into the American Composites Manufacturing Association (ACMA) Emerging Leaders Program. This inaugural group will learn how to advocate for the composites industry; advancing a new generation of thinkers and leaders.
Sheltra’s research focuses on projects related to the manufacturing and testing of large-scale thermoset composites and thermoplastic composite forming for infrastructure applications. After earning his B.S. and M.S. at the University of Maine, Sheltra served as program manager, Principal Investigator (PI), and Co-PI on federal DoD research programs. Working closely with engineers in the ASCC thermoplastics lab, as well as with his talented team of undergraduate students, Sheltra developed the Continuous Forming Machine (CFM), a novel system that uses pultrusion and thermoforming to manufacture complex thermoplastic Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) parts. Founded in 1979, the ACMA is the largest trade association for the composites industry. ACMA develops standards and specifications for FRP and other composite materials, in order to minimize the environmental footprint of composite materials and make consumer and industrial goods more productive. The ACMA, inaugurating 22 individuals into the inaugural Emerging Leaders Program, participants will engage in year-long programming to enhance their leadership skills, industry knowledge and relationships, and to support the growth of the composites industry.
This program will end at the Composites and Advanced Manufacturing Expo (CAMX); participants will host an info session at CAMX about the Emerging Leaders Program for future applicants. CAMX is the largest composites and advanced materials event in North America, with over 3,700+ attendees in 2024. Read more about CAMX 2025 here.
