The University of Maine’s research was featured in the Royal Institute of Naval Architect’s article on Taking Boat Design to New Dimensions with 3D Printing. This article positions 3D printing as the future of boatbuilding; it’s fast, efficient, and able to create boats while removing many of the cost-intensive factors. Featuring 3Dirigio, the world record holder for the world’s largest 3D printed boat and the world’s largest 3D printed object, was one of the first examples of how additive manufacturing (3D printing) can help reduce the cost to boatbuilders and the environmental impact boats have.
