Abstract:
The tension/torsion testing method has been developed that will be used to characterize the constitutive properties of fabrics for inflatable beams. This method should determine the fabric constitutive properties accurately as the fabric will be used for the beam material when under pressure. Investigating the effect of fabric coatings and internal bladders is also important on the overall structural performance. In addition, the shear modulus plays an important role for the material property for the design of air beams as it has strong contribution to the overall deformation of the structure. The nondestructive test methods are used to obtain the material properties of the air beam fabrics.
