ASCC BioHome3D featured in SME article

The UMaine Advanced Structures & Composites Center’s BioHome3D, the first 3D-printed house made entirely with bio-based materials, was featured in a SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers) article.

The article takes a deep dive into how the technology that made the BioHome3D has the potential to change the housing crisis, not only in America but in the world. 

“We don’t want to print a house every couple of months,” says ASCC Senior Research Engineer and Program Manager, Scott Tomlinson. “We want to print one every couple of days. That’s when the economies of scale start to make sense and we’ll be able to make a meaningful difference in the housing crisis.”
