ASCC Collaboration in Floating Offshore Wind Mention by University of Central Florida

A recent UCF article highlighted UMaine’s involvement in a collaboration with scientists from the University of Central Florida (UCF) led by Professor Tuhin Das researching floating wind turbines. For phase 1 of their research, they worked with the University of Maine’s Advanced Structures and Composites Center (ASCC) and their Floating Offshore Wind and Controls Advanced Laboratory (FOCAL) Experimental Program. This program did a variety of testing of advanced wind turbine control strategies, hull control and flexibility testing and optical motion testing in the ASCC’s Alfond Wind-Wave (W2) basin. Professor Das and their team used data from the FOCAL dataset to validate their research models.
