Lopez-Anido Featured as Keynote Speaker at XXVII JAIE Conference on Structural Engineering

Orono, Maine — Dr. Roberto Lopez-Anido, Malcolm G. Long Professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering and Advanced Structures and Composites Center (ASCC) research lead at the University of Maine, was featured as a keynote speaker at the 27th Argentine Conference on Structural Engineering (XXVII JAIE), located in Rosario, Argentina. The conference, which took place on September 28, 2022, featured industry and academic professionals from South America, Europe, and the United States who interacted and presented recent research and technological innovations in structural engineering.

Lopez-Anido’s presentation titled “Opportunities and Challenges in Structural Engineering due to the Disruption of 3D Printing in Construction” discusses the possibilities and limitations presented when utilizing thermoplastic composite materials in additive manufacturing and 3D printing. Citing the large format 3D printer available at the ASCC, Lopez-Anido gave updates on the research and development efforts toward large-scale additive manufacturing happening at the Center.
