John Arimond is responsible for:
- Building wind blade testing capabilities and leading an accredited IEC 61400-23 blade testing program
- Leading the successful handling and static testing of blades up to 56m in 2014
- Leading the design, installation, and startup of ground-reaction fatigue testing equipment in 2015
- Hiring a graduate student to develop advances in wind blade fatigue testing
- Applying advanced NDT techniques to wind blade inspection, including ultrasound, acoustic emission, and digital image correlation
- Developing blade inspection and repair knowhow, as well as planning continued development of inspection and structural refurbishment methods
- Managing a variety of other design and testing activities in the 100,000 ft2 UMaine Composites Center, including fatigue and static testing to failure of wind blade components and substructures
